Call for Volunteers

Volunteer at WordCamp US 2026

Applications close June 15. Free ticket included. Minimum commitment is two half-days or one full day. Volunteer schedules go out by July 6.

Why volunteer

Four reasons volunteers come back year after year

Community

Meet people you'd otherwise only see in Slack. The volunteer crew bonds fast — it's a built-in friend group.

Give back

WordCamp US exists because the community shows up. Volunteering is a direct way to keep that engine running.

Behind the scenes

Access to speakers, sponsors, and organizers you wouldn't get as a regular attendee. The room behind the room.

Free ticket

Volunteers get a complimentary ticket to all four days. Access to every session when you're not on shift.

Time commitment

Two half-days minimum. Most volunteers do more.

Half-day shifts are 5 hours — morning or afternoon

Sunday Aug 16 is Contributor Day (lighter volunteer load). Monday Aug 17 is Showcase Day (moderate). Tuesday Aug 18 and Wednesday Aug 19 are the main conference days (busiest). Wednesday evening is the social.

You pick your availability on the application; the Volunteer squad assembles the schedule based on role preferences and shifts. Schedules go out by July 6.

Volunteer roles

Three role categories — ten roles to pick from

Attendee Services

Registration Desk · General Floor Help · Swag Distribution

Front-of-house roles. You're the friendly face when attendees arrive and the person they ask when they need help.

Room Staff

Room Monitor · Speaker Wrangler · AV / Tech Support

Inside the session rooms. You make sure talks start on time, mics work, and speakers feel supported.

Special / Events

Sponsor Liaison · Social Event Support · Contributor Day Coordination

Higher-context roles for returning volunteers. Coordinating sponsor activations, the Wednesday social, or Contributor Day teams.
