The Promptless Connector

Brief Claude. Deploy production WordPress pages. No editor required.

The Promptless Connector connects Claude Desktop to your WordPress site. Brief Claude in conversation to create or update pages, manage navigation menus, and read live site state. Every action is scoped to Promptless-managed pages, reversible by default, and instantly revocable from your WordPress admin.

How it works

Five minutes to set up. One conversation to ship.

Setup is a one-time click inside the WordPress admin plus a single terminal command. After that, your next Claude Desktop conversation sees your WordPress site. No configuration wizards, no YAML files, no API key management.

Generate a secure connection

Click Generate Connection on the Promptless Connector admin page. The plugin creates a WordPress application password scoped specifically to Promptless operations, separate from your user login.

Run the setup command

Copy the one-line command into Terminal on Mac or PowerShell on Windows. The setup installs a small Node.js helper program on your computer and registers it with Claude Desktop.

Restart Claude Desktop

Your next conversation automatically sees your WordPress site. The full setup takes about five minutes, start to finish.

Brief Claude in conversation

Tell Claude what you want, the way you would describe the job to a developer on your team. "Create a home page for an HVAC company. Use their brand voice. Add a testimonials section after features." Claude asks clarifying questions if needed, then deploys.

Review and iterate on your live site

Claude reads the resulting pages, accepts follow-up instructions, and updates what you point to. Iterate in the conversation until the page is where you want it.

That is the full workflow. No WordPress editor opened, no documents uploaded, no copy-paste cycle.

What Claude can do

Scoped capabilities, not unlimited access.

Once the Connector is active, Claude has these specific permissions on your WordPress site. Everything outside this list is off-limits by design.

Build pages from scratch

Complete multi-page sites with hero, features, FAQ, testimonials, stats, team, steps, checklist, and pricing sections, structured to your theme's design tokens.

Deploy to existing pages

Update the hero on your home page, add a features section below testimonials, rewrite copy across pages. Claude reads the existing structure and modifies what you point to.

Manage navigation menus

Create menus from scratch, add pages to existing menus, or restructure the menu hierarchy, all through conversation.

Read your site state

Ask Claude what pages Promptless manages, what sections live on each page, or whether a specific page exists. Claude reads the site directly instead of guessing.

Clean up test pages

Delete specific preview pages. Pages go to WordPress trash by default, recoverable anytime, unless you explicitly request permanent deletion.

Upload and place images

Drop a local image into the conversation, and Claude uploads it to your WordPress media library with auto-generated alt text, then places it on the correct section field.

What Claude can't do, by design

Trust is built on explicit constraints, not assurances.

The Connector is architected so Claude cannot reach beyond Promptless-managed content. Every constraint below is enforced at the WordPress API level, not at the Claude level, so no prompt or conversation can escalate privileges.

Modify non-Promptless pages

Blog posts, hand-authored WordPress pages, WooCommerce products, and anything outside Promptless's control are off-limits. Attempts return a 403 error.

Access WordPress passwords or API keys

The Connector uses a one-way application password. Your actual WordPress login password is never exposed to Claude or Claude's context window.

Create users or change security settings

Claude cannot add users, change roles, modify permissions, or touch security-sensitive WordPress settings.

Touch other plugin data

Theme settings, WooCommerce configuration, SEO plugin data, and anything unrelated to Promptless is invisible to Claude.

Execute code or install plugins

Claude cannot upload or execute arbitrary code, install plugins or themes, or modify files on your server. The Connector only speaks to WordPress's REST API.

Make irreversible changes without confirmation

Destructive operations like resetting all Promptless content require an explicit confirmation phrase before Claude can execute. Nothing catastrophic happens by accident.

Agencies running the Connector on client sites can sleep knowing the blast radius is contained. The scope is enforced by code, not by prompt hygiene.

Safety architecture

Three layers of protection. Every one verifiable.

Trust starts with constraints, but constraints need reinforcement. The Connector has three layers of architectural protection that back every claim on this page.

If you ever need to cut access, revoke the application password and Claude loses the ability to make changes immediately. No uninstall needed, no waiting for a session to time out.

Scoped permissions enforced at the WordPress API level, not in policy

WordPress application password, separate from your main account login

Delete operations move pages to trash by default, recoverable from WP Admin

Reset operations require an explicit confirmation phrase before execution

Access is instantly revocable from the Promptless admin page, one click

Every action logged in the connector activity history

Works with any theme, any host, any WordPress configuration

Frequently asked questions

Questions agencies ask before running this on client sites.

Yes, and the safety is architectural. Claude's access is scoped to Promptless-managed content via WordPress application passwords. It cannot touch blog posts, WooCommerce products, theme settings, or other plugin data. Delete operations are reversible by default. Access is instantly revocable from the WordPress admin. Agencies running it on client sites can sleep knowing the blast radius is contained.

No. WordPress application passwords are one-way credentials. The site issues one to Claude, Claude uses it to make authenticated requests. Your actual WordPress login password is never exposed to Claude or to Claude's context window. Revoking the application password is independent of your main account.

No. The Connector works with free Claude Desktop. If you use Claude for heavy workloads you may eventually want a paid plan for higher usage limits, but the Connector itself does not require one.

Revoke the connection from the Promptless Connector admin page before the handoff. Claude loses access immediately. The new owner can generate their own connection if they want to continue using it, or leave it disconnected.

There is a reset capability, but it requires an explicit confirmation phrase before Claude can execute it. Normal delete operations are reversible (items go to WordPress trash). A catastrophic site-wipe requires the user to deliberately type the confirmation phrase, which Claude will not initiate on its own.

Any theme. The Connector deploys standard Promptless page sections that inherit your theme's design tokens natively. Divi, Bricks, Kadence, GeneratePress, Blocksy, custom themes, all work. Pairing with the free Promptless Theme gives the tightest integration across your header, footer, and archive pages.

No. The Connector requires a paid Promptless license (Solo, Studio, or Agency). Free-tier users can evaluate the plugin through the document-import AI on up to two pages, and upgrade when they want Connector access and unlimited pages.

The Connector is built on Model Context Protocol (MCP), an open standard. Any AI assistant that adds MCP support will be able to use it. As of this writing, Claude Desktop has the most mature MCP integration, so the Connector is Claude-first. When other assistants ship meaningful MCP support, they will work too.
