Each squad owns a specific function of the event \u2014 from speaker curation to accessibility to the website you&#039;re reading right now.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">How the team is structured<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Three layers, one goal<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">WCUS Lead<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One person sets the overall direction, makes final calls when squads disagree, and represents WCUS to the WordPress Foundation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Squad Leads<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">12 leads \u2014 one per squad. Typically 6-10 hours\/week. Owns squad-level decisions and accountability.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Squad Members<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">1-4 members per squad. Typically 2-5 hours\/week. Execution work that keeps each squad moving forward.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The 12 squads<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What each squad owns<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Accessibility &amp; Wayfinding<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mission: Make WCUS accessible to every attendee. Venue accessibility audit, sign language coordination, sensory-friendly spaces, wayfinding signage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Attendee Communications<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mission: Keep attendees informed. Pre-event emails, day-of logistics communications, post-event recap, attendee survey.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Community (Contributor Day)<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mission: Make Sunday Aug 16 a great hackathon. Coordinate the 25 contributor teams, onboard newcomers, manage on-site logistics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Design<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mission: WCUS looks great in every surface. Event branding, social graphics, signage, slide templates, swag, livestream graphics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Finance<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mission: Keep the books balanced and transparent. Budget oversight, sponsor invoicing, vendor payments, final reconciliation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Marketing<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mission: Get the right people in the room. Pre-event communications, social presence, news posts, press relations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Programming (Speaker) Curation<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mission: Build the strongest possible program. Review submissions, balance tracks and formats, manage the speaker selection process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Speaker Logistics<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mission: Set up speakers to succeed on stage. Timing, room assignments, AV, rehearsals, travel support for confirmed speakers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Sponsorship Sales<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mission: Bring sponsors to the table. Outreach, tier conversations, contracts, renewals from previous WCUS sponsors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Sponsorship Operations<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mission: Deliver what we promised sponsors. Booth logistics, branded touchpoints, on-site activation, deliverables.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Volunteer<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mission: Build and run the volunteer crew. Call for Volunteers, scheduling, pre-event training, day-of coordination.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Web \/ Technology<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mission: Every digital surface works. The website, speaker portal, sponsor portal, schedule software, volunteer tools.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Squad Lead role<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What Squad Leads are accountable for<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Set squad scope and timeline. Break it into actionable work for squad members.<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Weekly squad meetings and Slack presence. Unblock members when they get stuck.<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Represent the squad in cross-squad coordination meetings.<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Make squad-level decisions and document them in the squad&#039;s Notion\/Drive.<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Hand off to the WCUS Lead when something needs cross-event arbitration.<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Post-event retrospective writeup.
